Licensing
The Thailand Livability Index is built around three distinct licensing layers: code, public dataset, and trademark. Each is governed by its own terms. This page explains the boundary and points to the canonical license texts.
Code — MIT
The TypeScript, Astro, Python, and shell source code in this repository is licensed under the MIT License. You can use, modify, and redistribute the code freely, including commercially, with attribution.
Public dataset — CC BY-NC 4.0
The methodology document, indicator definitions, scoring algorithm, data outputs (province-level scores, indicator meta), and other non-code content are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).
Free use cases under CC BY-NC 4.0:
- Academic research, theses, and peer-reviewed publication
- Journalism and editorial coverage
- Personal, civic, and educational use
- Thai government and public-sector use
- Non-profit organizations whose use is non-commercial
Commercial use — reserved, not currently licensed
The Thailand Livability Index is a non-commercial open-data project. Commercial use of the methodology, data outputs, indicator definitions, or any derived material is currently reserved and is not licensed.
A commercial-licensing pathway may be made available at a future date. Whether it ever becomes available is contingent and uncertain. There is currently no commercial offering, no published pricing, and no active commercial-licensing service.
If you may have an interest in any future commercial licensing should it ever become available, you may send an informational expression of interest to [email protected]. Such expressions are recorded for awareness only. They are not commercial transactions, do not create a contract, do not commit either party, and do not initiate a commercial relationship.
Trademark
The names "Thailand Livability Index" and "TLI", together with any associated visual marks, are trademarks of the project maintainer. The MIT and CC BY-NC 4.0 licenses do not grant rights in the project's name or marks. See TRADEMARK.md for the trademark boundary and the "if you have any doubt, ask" contact.
Third-party data
Underlying source data used in producing TLI scores is licensed by the original data providers, including Thai government agencies, OpenAQ, ACLED, and OpenStreetMap. TLI's CC BY-NC 4.0 license applies only to the methodology, indicator definitions, and aggregated output produced by this project. Users redistributing underlying source data should consult and comply with each source's license terms directly.
